About Cambridge Youth Opera

Cambridge Youth Opera (CYO) broadens the creative horizons of young people through opera. We work with young people to create age appropriate productions to the highest possible standard.

Our activities include everything that goes to make up an opera, including singing, orchestral playing, stage management, lighting and all elements of production design and build. Many of the young people who take part have never experienced opera before.

More about CYO

Join us!

Do you love to sing, act, or work backstage? With CYO, you’ll experience all the elements that go into staging an opera. You don’t need to know anything about opera to join us, but what you find out might surprise you! You’ll have the chance to learn from professional coaches and take part in shows which are exciting for participants and the audience.

Our members are mostly between 12 and 21 and come from Cambridge and the surrounding area. We sometimes need older or younger singers, so check the information about each production.

Most of our shows need a small orchestra – we need different instruments depending on the show, so watch our website, Facebook and Twitter for more information about what we’re looking for.

Our activities are open for everybody. We don’t charge for participation.
