New production

Making Magic

We’re all very excited about our new programme based on operas with magic themes, chosen to give all our singers the opportunity to learn new skills and perform at their best. They’re an excellent preparation for our production of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, planned for 2019/2020.

The schedule will include nine workshops, leading up to a performance on 24 March 2019. Workshops will take place on six Sunday afternoons and three Tuesday evenings.

This is an ideal opportunity for singers of all abilities to find out about opera,  learn new skills and showcase their abilities.

Singers are welcome to take part in the workshops without committing to Hansel and Gretel, but for those singers who do want to sing in the Humperdinck, the workshops will also enable you to develop with this in mind.

Hansel and Gretel

More than a simple fairytale for children, Humperdinck created a wonderful, grand opera, one of the most popular pieces in opera houses all over the world. Fortunately for us, he also wrote a simpler version, which is perfect for us. It’s full of lovely music and very singable, and includes plenty of challenges for those who want to develop their musical and dramatic ability.

This production will provide opportunities for singers age 11 – 21, as well as a full production team, including stage managers, set builders, costume makers and lighting techinicians.

We’ll be recruiting for this show from Spring 2019 onwards.
