We’re all very excited about our new production of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, planned for March 2020, preceded in March 2019 by a performance of scenes from favourite operas, chosen to give all our singers the opportunity to learn new skills and perform at their best.
The Opera Scenes will be prepared in a series of workshops, which will also lay the groundwork for Hansel and Gretel. It will be possible to take part in the scenes without committing to Hansel.
They are an ideal opportunity for singers of all abilities to find out about opera, learn new skills and showcase their abilities.
The workshops will also enable singers to develop towards the casting Hansel and Gretel, which will take place in the Spring and Summer of 2019.
Hansel and Gretel
More than a simple fairytale for children, Humperdinck created a wonderful, grand opera, one of the most popular pieces in opera houses all over the world. Fortunately for us, he also wrote a simpler version, which is perfect for us. It’s full of lovely music and very singable, and includes plenty of challenges for those who want to develop their musical and dramatic ability.
This production will provide opportunities for singers age 11 – 21, as well as a full production team, including stage managers, set builders, costume makers and lighting techinicians.
The cast includes:
- Hansel – mezzo soprano
- Gretel – soprano
- Witch – mezzo soprano
- Father – baritone
- Mother – soprano
- Sandman and Dewman – sopranos
- Chorus of sopranos and altos
If you’d like to join the cast and/or the production team please sign up.
