CYO is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) managed by a board of trustees. There is more about how we function as a charity under Governance.
Our day to day activities are run by a voluntary committee who are responsible for the administration of all activities, as well as planning and fundraising for our productions and other activities.
During production periods, we employ a team of professionals, whose role it is to work with the participants to deliver the quality for which we aim. Typically these include the:
- Director – responsible for the overarching vision and the physical staging of the work including acting and the management of the production team
- Musical director – has overall responsibility for all musical elements of the work, including the selection and training of orchestral musicians and conducting where required
- Vocal coach – works with the singers to ensure healthy vocal production and on finer points of vocal expression and technique
- Choral director – trains the chorus to a high standard of musical interpretation and performance including the stylistic differences between singing in an operatic chorus vs a choir
In addition we engage other professionals to bring specific expertise where needed, for example, dance choreography or elements of technical theatre.
We also involve past performers and members of the production team as mentors, working with young participants to increase their confidence and skill.
